The February 2014 issue of ZFHE is devoted to the topic of mentoring, coaching and counselling in European universities. According to Richard Marz continental Europe is finally catching up in this field, especially to universities in the U.S. that traditionally set a high value on providing support for their students that goes beyond the mere academic environment and expands to all aspects of student life. The articles collected in this issue address how mentoring concepts shape the culture of universities, and discuss and evaluate objectives, challenges, impact and outcome of mentoring programs.
