The School VI of Medicine and Health Sciences comprises the fields of human medicine, medical physics and acoustics, neurosciences, psychology and health services research. Together with the four regional hospitals, School VI forms the University Medicine Oldenburg. Furthermore, the university cooperates closely with the University Medicine of the University of Groningen.
At the University Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (Prof. Dr. Eduard Malik, Department of Human Medicine, University of Oldenburg), there is a vacancy for a
Research Associate/PhD (m/f/d)
(E13 TV-L, 100 %)
to be filled as a temporary parental leave replacement as of 01.01.2025 for a limited period of 2 years (expected until 31.12.2026). The position is suitable for part-time work.
Within the profile initiative Early Development causes and consequences of early/risk births should be investigated. Thereby, we focus on the immunological regulation of preeclampsia and want to explore the causes, the consequences and better possibilities of early diagnosis of this disease. For that, we measure the expression of possible markers, characterize the mother and child's blood, tissue and immune cells, and analyse exosomes as possible biomarkers.
We are a small, interdisciplinary team under development. Therefore, you can expect a responsible and versatile position where you can develop the research focus independently and with a high degree of freedom. On top, you can develop your own research projects as well as participate in innovative projects in fundamental research and in clinical-translational research.
Tasks include:
- Cell biological tasks (e.g. isolation of trophoblasts and immune cells of placenta, blood and cord blood, flow cytometry)
- Molecular biological tasks (e.g. isolation of RNA and DNA from tissue and cells, qRT-PCR, Elisa, Co-IP, Western Blot)
- Histological tasks (preparation of tissue samples and tissue sections for immunohistochemistry)
- Isolation of exosomes and analysis of possible biomarker
- The scientific work includes mentoring of the research focus from concept and development until publication and presentation of results
- Mentoring of students and PhDs, in addition teaching (4 teaching hours)
Required qualifications:
- Completed academic university degree (Master or equivalent) in Biology, Biomedicine, Life Sciences or in a comparable discipline, as well as a completed relevant doctorate
- Advanced knowledge in immunology, biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology
- Broad knowledge in flow cytometry, cell culture, qRT-PCR and with exosomes are desirable
- Very good English skills, German skills are expected (B1 level)
- High engagement, capacity for teamwork, organisational talent and the ability to work autonomously
- Ability to prepare, present and publish scientific data
