Faculty of Biology of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz / Institute of Organismic and Molecular Evolution / Huber lab
Postdoctoral position
full-time (100%)
Many industrially valuable products are made by plants. Cultivating these plants and extracting the compounds is, however, often inefficient, costly and harmful to the environment. An alternative to the exploitation of plants that naturally produce the compounds is synthetic biology, in which the biosynthetic pathway is introduced into an efficient expression system. A newly emerging expression system are duckweeds, aquatic plants that grow extremely rapidly and can be genetically engineered. In this project, we aim to improve the current genetic transformation method in duckweeds to transform this plant into environmentally friendly biofactories.
YOUR TASKS:
- Independent research in the field of synthetic biology in duckweeds
- Establishing a genetic transformation platform in duckweed
- Co-supervision of a PhD-student
- Teaching activities
YOUR PROFILE:
- In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.
- a successfully completed academic university degree with a completed doctorate
- Expertise in tissue culture, genetic transformation and molecular biology in plants
- Experience with CRISPR/Cas is advantageous
WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER:
- Diverse and challenging tasks in a dynamic, interanational research team
- State-of-the-art infrastructure
- Excellent training opportunities and collaboration possibilities in various aspects of research
- Possibility to co-supervise a PhD-student
- Jobticket, optional for the entire Rhine-Main area
- Extensive human resources development offer
- Flexible working time arrangements
The position is paid according to EG 13 TV-L and is to be filled for a limited period of two years at the earliest possible date. The position can probably be extended for one year.
JGU is diverse and welcomes qualified applications from people with varied backgrounds.
